Flower City 1872 set to join USL W League in 2025
Rochester, NY & Tampa, Fla. – The United Soccer League announced today that
Flower City 1872 will join the USL W League for the 2025 season.
Flower City 1872 was founded in 2023, joining the club’s men’s pre-professional team
Flower City Union. The club is committed to positively impacting the Rochester area and
honoring the city’s rich soccer history by fielding a competitive team and supporting the
development of local talent. The club embraces diversity and aims to reflect the faces
and voices of the region.
"Joining the USL W League is an exciting step forward for our club, as it allows us to
compete at a higher level but also strengthens our commitment to further developing
both the game and the next generation of female leaders,” said Casey Catlin, Flower
City 1872 and Flower City Union General Manager. “We eagerly anticipate the
challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the USL as we continue to grow our club.
This is an exciting chapter for Flower City 1872, and we can't wait to make our mark in
the league."
The name and crest of the club represents Rochester, New York, known as “the Flower
City.” The badge specifically honors Susan B. Anthony, who placed the first vote by a
woman in the United States illegally in Rochester in 1872.
The club participates in various community activations, including its annual Charity
Night, the NAMI Walk, the Golisano Children’s Hospital Stroll for Strong Kids Walk, and
it partakes in initiatives with Trillium Health and Urban League of Rochester,
organizations known for providing care for minority and underserved communities.
Flower City 1872 will play its home matches at the Rochester Community Sports
Complex in Rochester, New York, as a member of the Central Conference.
“We’re extremely excited to have Flower City 1872 join the USL W League,” said Joel
Nash, SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “The club has shown immense
