Position Overview

The Director of Youth Development will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the youth programs for Flower City Union and Flower City 1872. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of soccer training, mentorship programs, and community outreach initiatives designed to inspire, engage, and support young athletes in the Rochester area.

The Director will work closely with other departments within the organization, coaches, families, schools, and community partners to ensure that Flower City Union’s youth programs provide a positive, inclusive, and impactful experience for all participants. This role requires a passionate, innovative, and driven leader committed to youth development, soccer, and community building.

Key Responsibilities

1. Youth Program Leadership & Management

  • Develop, implement, and oversee all youth development programs, including but not limited to youth leagues, camps, clinics, and player development pathways.
  • Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive youth development strategy, ensuring alignment with Flower City Union’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Supervise and mentor the youth coaches and staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and adjust curricula and resources to meet evolving community needs and best practices in youth sports development.
  • Establish long-term goals for the growth and sustainability of youth programs, including recruitment, retention, and impact measurement.

2. Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders to promote the Flower City Union brand and expand youth participation in programs.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, schools, and other youth sports organizations to develop partnerships that increase access to soccer opportunities for underserved and diverse youth populations.
  • Represent Flower City Union at youth-focused events, workshops, and community gatherings to advocate for the organization and its mission.

3. Coaching & Player Development

  • Support the recruitment and training of high-quality youth coaches and mentors who align with the club's standards and values.
  • Develop and implement player development programs that focus on technical skills, teamwork, leadership, and character-building for youth athletes.
  • Ensure that coaching staff adheres to best practices in player safety, development, and holistic growth, both on and off the field.

4. Program Evaluation & Impact Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data related to youth program outcomes, ensuring the programs are meeting their objectives and making a positive impact on participants.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the General Manager, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and areas for growth.
  • Continuously assess the youth development landscape, adjusting programming and partnerships as necessary to maximize impact.

5. Administration

  • Oversee the logistics, scheduling, and operations of youth programs, ensuring seamless execution and positive participant experiences.
  • Maintain records and ensure compliance with any applicable regulations, safety standards, and policies.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in youth development, coaching, or sports program management, preferably in soccer.
  • Proven track record of managing youth sports programs, including staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in community outreach and partnership-building.
  • Familiarity with best practices in youth development, coaching methodologies, and player pathways.
